Ash Wednesday Worship Service
March 6, 2019, 7:30 PM

Ash Wednesday is one of the most unique worship services of the year. In the service we burn paper that symbolize that which we wish to give up and we take on the mark of ashes as a reminder of our mortality and the desire to live to God's dream for us. Please join us for this powerful spiritual experience.

Children's Communion Class Begins

This year our church will have a “Welcome to the Communion Table” ceremony in spring.  Marlena Mooers will once again be teaching our “Welcome to the Communion Table” classes.  It is offered every other year at the Congregational Church of Huntington during our regular Sunday School classes for children 2nd grade and older.   The classes focus on what it means to receive communion at our church and how it relates to Jesus and his teachings. The first class meets this Sunday, February 3, during church school. Speak to Marlena if you have any questions.

A yoga class is being offered to all adult church members on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Bonnie and Kristin bring their long-standing love of yoga and their instructor Marie Cruz to the CCH community. Yoga offers many positive benefits to the body, mind and spirit through the practice of meditation and mindfulness. As another busy holiday season approaches, yoga can help us find the balance we all  seek. The class is $20.00 per session. For more details call Bonnie or Kristin at 516.922.9525 or Sue at the Church office.

Pastor's Book Group

The March book selection is a fascinating look at the nature of animal consciousness from Carl Safina, a celebrated scientist and professor at Stony Brook University. "Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel" explores the nature of human behavior and dares to go beyond the usual scientific dogma to explore animal personalities.

From the Publisher: Weaving decades of field observations with exciting new discoveries about the brain, Carl Safina's landmark book offers an intimate view of animal behavior to challenge the fixed boundary between humans and nonhuman animals. Beyond Words brings forth powerful and illuminating insight into the unique personalities of animals through extraordinary stories of animal joy, grief, jealousy, anger, and love. The similarity between human and nonhuman consciousness, self-awareness, and empathy calls us to re-evaluate how we interact with animals. Wise, passionate, and eye-opening at every turn, Beyond Words is ultimately a graceful examination of humanity's place in the world.

The discussion group will meet on Wednesday, March 27.
