Fall Congregational Meeting

Sunday, October 28, 2018
Following worship in Fellowship Hall

Stone Soup

The story of Stone Soup is about a soup pot that begins with only a few stones, but through the miracle of sharing becomes a delicious meal. Please bring some vegies, cooked beans, or pasta to add to our stone soup. Or you could bring bread, fruit or dessert to accompany the soup.

Strategic Planning Report
The meeting will include a report from our strategic planning team about their all-church survey and recommendations to help guide us forward. They will also present a by-laws amendment to allow non-members to serve on church committees (except Trustees and Diaconate). In addition, the Trustees will present our preliminary budget for 2019.

See you on Sunday!

Church School Update

Dear Church School Family,

I hope everyone will have a safe and Happy Halloween this year. As we have done for the past couple of years, the Children's Ministry Committee's October Service Project is to collect candy in support of our Troops.

Please send all candy in by this Sunday, November 4. As always, we want to thank our Church School families for their support. Again, if you don't have any leftover candy to donate, we are also asking for donations to cover the cost of shipping the candy (last year's donation cost around $70 to ship).

So, thanks in advance for your donations, and also a quick reminder that this Sunday, October 28 is Gardening Sunday, when Alice Weigers will lead our Church School children in an engaging outdoor gardening activity (weather permitting), so please have your child dress in comfortable clothes. In the event of rain, we will have an alternate indoor activity for our Church School children.

Finally, our Music Director Brian Heveron-Smith will be rehearsing with our Church School Children in anticipation of their December Service Project, which will be Christmas Caroling at a local Nursing Home, spreading some much-needed holiday cheer. More details on this Service Project in weeks to come.

Parent/Youth Meeting

Sunday, November 4, following worship

There will be a meeting for all 7-12th graders and their parents to discuss our upcoming youth programs. The agenda will include:
Confirmation: The confirmation class for all 7-8th graders will begin their program by helping with the youth Advent/Christmas giving programs. The formal classes will start in early January. Confirmation Sunday is June 9, 2019.
Youth Leadership Council: Open to 9-12th graders the YLC will train youth in leadership skills (including public speaking, organizing, listening, and faithful living). They will also advise the church council on church programs and help to lead programs for all the youth of our church.
Nightwatch: Join Pastor Mark on a sleepover at the world's largest cathedral–St. John the Divine in Manhattan on Friday, January 11, 2019. This program is part of the confirmation curriculum, but also open to all youth of the church.

As another busy holiday season approaches, yoga can help us find the balance we all  seek. The class is $20.00 per session. For more details call Bonnie or Kristin at 516.922.9525 or Sue at the Church office.

CCH Progressive Dinner

November 3, 2018, 5:30 PM

Join us for one of the best social events of the year. You will begin the evening with appetizers at one home, will have dinner at a second home, and finish with dessert at a third home. It is a great way to get to know more people in the church, and enjoy great food. All are welcome. Sign up on the church bulletin board or contact Jean Uhl.

Do you want to be part of a dynamic movement for an inclusive sharing of God's love in our world? Then you should become a member of CCH. Pastor Mark is forming a new member class for this to join later this fall. To participate speak to him after worship or via email

Worship Calendar

October 28: Fall Congregational Meeting
The fable "Stone Soup" will serve as both the theme for worship and the recipe for our soup lunch on this day of the fall congregational meeting. Bring some cooked vegies or beans to add to the soup for the lunch and meeting following worship.

November 4: Memorial Sunday/Communion
On the Sunday following All Saint's Day we remember loved ones who have passed away this year with a candle lighting liturgy. There will also be a meeting for all youth and their parents following worship to discuss confirmation and the new Youth Leadership Council.

Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed

Hosting our fellowship hour is one of the best ways to help to build our community. All you need to do is to bring a few snacks, come early to set-up the coffee and then put everything away afterward. And the Membership Committee members are always available to help any newbies. Don't worry about bringing much food–just a little snack, please.

Also, the membership committee is going to try something new for coffee. They will have regular (caffeinated} coffee to be brewed in the big coffee pot and will have decaffeinated Keurig pods for those who wish to avoid the caffeine. Please let the committee know what you think.

Volunteers Needed

Northport Food Pantry

We collect food for the Northport Food pantry each week at our church. Please place donations in the box by the church office.

Peace and Plenty Food Outreach:   Peace and Plenty is in need of plastic grocery bags to deliver their lunches each week. Bring any extra to the church. You are invited to help make sandwiches and prepare snacks for children in Huntington. Peace and Plenty will meets on Mondays at 6:30 PM. They are also in need of donations of lunch meats and cheeses, fruit and healthy snacks.

Cooks Needed for the Peace & Plenty program
We're looking for a few volunteers who can help us send the Tri CYA trays of
cooked food such as baked ziti, chicken and rice, pasta with meatballs or meat sauce, etc. Most children at the Tri CYA receive free breakfast and lunch at school during the school year and rely on the Tri CYA  for at least one nutritious meal. We try to support that effort with some substantial dishes, beyond sandwiches.  Some of the food may also be sent to individuals unable to get out to food pantries and living with food shortages. If you would like to help  please contact Anne:
