My God, My Music
Artist as Citizen Program, by Alexandra Ebanks Sunday, January 21, 2018, 11:30 AM
On Sunday, January 21, at 11:30 AM, AlexandraEbanks will give a performance/lecture about the connection between her spiritual growth in the church and her growth as a musician. The performance will run roughly 30 minutes, and will feature Alexandra playing pieces on both piano and cello.
Artist as Citizen is an independent project exploring the musician's role as leader, entrepreneur, and arts advocate. Offering an interactive performance, lecture-demonstration, or other artistic project in their local community, students experience firsthand how the arts can foster meaningful connections, strengthen community, and inspire social change. This is part of Alexandra's participation in the Julliard's Music Advancement Program.

CCH Yoga
A new yoga class is being offered to all adult church members on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Bonnie and Kristin bring their long-standing love of yoga and their instructor Marie Cruz to the CCH community. Yoga offers many positive benefits to the body, mind and spirit through the practice of meditation and mindfulness. As another busy holiday season approaches, yoga can help us find the balance we all seek. The class is $20.00 per session. For more details call Bonnie or Kristin at 516.922.9525 or Sue at the Church office.

Pastor's Book Group
The Pastor's Book Group will not meet in December, but we have picked a lovely novel to read for the holiday season. Many of you will remember “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” that we read almost four years ago. Our January book is the sequel, “The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy,” in which the author, Rachel Joyce, has written a poignant parallel story to Harold’s saga.
We will meet on Wednesday, January 24, 7:30 PM at Pastor Mark's home.
From the publisher:
In this, acclaimed author Rachel Joyce brings Queenie Hennessy’s voice into sharp focus. Setting pen to paper, Queenie makes a journey of her own, a journey that is even bigger than Harold’s; one word after another, she promises to confess long-buried truths—about her modest childhood, her studies at Oxford, the heartbreak that brought her to Kingsbridge and to loving Harold, her friendship with his son, the solace she has found in a garden by the sea. And, finally, the devastating secret she has kept from Harold for all these years.
A wise, tender, layered novel that gathers tremendous emotional force, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy underscores the resilience of the human spirit, beautifully illuminating the small yet pivotal moments that can change a person’s life.
