This is a Sunday when I am particularly happy with our church. This is really a pretty cool place. And it is not due to our worship service on Sunday morning, though I think that is going to be just fine. It is the rest of the day that has me excited.
It is a little crazy to have so much on one day (a long story and circumstances beyond our control), but we have the marriage equality panel discussion at noon and the Raise Your Glass to Reading fundraiser from 1:00-5:00 in Northport. I think it is great that our church can hold a discussion about such an important topic, marriage equality, and a fun fundraiser for such an important hands-on mission project as the Reading Circle Literacy Outreach.
The fundraiser is being held at ChiroSpa in Northport. It had originally been planned for the Northport Tasting Room wine bar, but (again circumstances beyond our control) it had to be moved with only a few days notice. Thank you to Nadine O’Neill for offering her gallery space and outdoor deck. With marvelous views of Northport harbor this is a perfect venue for this event. Pay $10 at the door and enjoy wine, soda and snacks with raffles, live music and a silent auction. It all benefits our literacy program in which volunteers share the love of reading with needy children in Huntington.
Because of the new venue we need additional volunteers for the reading fundraiser—bartenders, servers and directional guides are all needed in one hour shifts. Call or email Anne Canadeo to volunteer.
Before you go to the fundraiser, be sure to stay after church for the marriage equality program. We will have a light brunch and then a panel of same sex couples (including our own Dot and Krista) who will talk about the importance of marriage equality in New York State. It looks like we will have good press coverage (Newsday is suppose to be here) for this very important program. This Sunday promises to be a very good day for church.
