Season Change

I pray you are all well and safe after the big blizzard of 2010. I am hoping we can keep that title for this past week’s storm and don’t have to use it again for another storm. We closed the church office on Wednesday, but Laura was in working on the bulletin on Thursday morning. I joined her in the afternoon after a quick to trip to NYC in the morning to have breakfast with Ronnie’s sister and family who were visiting from southern California. They loved the snow.

Winter is going to here for the next five week, but my thoughts are turning to the next church season. And just in time. For Lent begins in five days. These dates always sneak up on me. It hit me this week when I realized Ash Wednesday was only a week away. Wow!

The Deacons have planned a great theme for Lent with some programs that may lead us all to enrich our lives and the lives of families and communities. Be sure to be in church on the first Sunday of Lent (February 21) for a fun surprise. But, before that begins, we have our annual Ash Wednesday service. It will be at 7:30 PM on February 17. This is a quiet and reflective service that gives us all a chance to reflect on our spiritual path for Lent. The service include the marking with ashes.

This coming Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday. If you don’t know what that is, come to church and I’ll tell you. Since it will be Valentine’s Day my sermon will focus on God’s love for us and how we may each better reflect that love to others.

With Lent starting that means Easter is on the way—and spring. In the meantime, come to church for warmth and new life.
