Christmas Wish List
by Pastor Mark
‘Tis the season for giving. As you make your lists and check them twice I would like to remind you of the opportunities for giving that we have at this church this Christmas season.
We have once again adopted a family for Christmas. Actually, we adopted two families this year. The Pilgrim Fellowship is handling one family all by themselves. By adopting a family we agree to provide the entire Christmas for a low-income family in Huntington. This includes presents for all the family members and food for the holidays. It is a big effort for our church, but it means so much to the family that is served. We have just received the wish lists from our families. On Sunday we will have cards for you to take home with items to buy for our adopted family. The wrapped gifts will need to be returned to the church by December 21. If you can’t make it to church on Sunday you could pick up a card at the church next week.
It is also our tradition to take up a special Christmas offering to provide direct help to worthy organizations. This year we will divide the Christmas offering between the Huntington Interfaith Housing Revolving Loan Fund and our Peace and Plenty lunch making program. The revolving loan fund provides the means to renovate abandoned homes in our community and then sell them to people who otherwise could not afford a home. The mortgage payments then go back to replenish the fund. The fund has completed their first house this fall and is beginning another.
To extend the giving after Christmas, our next night to staff the HIHI program is on Saturday, December 28. We have a lot of needs from making food, to driving, to cleaning. I know that many people will be gone that weekend, so if you are around, we really need your help.
