Complaint Free Lent

Happy Valentines Day!

I hope you are enjoying the day. And, no complaining.

This past Sunday we introduced our CCH Lenten program. We are asking everyone to give up complaining for Lent. The Deacons want to have a complaint-free church. We are inspired by the book “A Complaint Free World” by Will Bowen. He challenged his congregation in Kansas City to give up complaining for 21 days. That is the time required to make a change in one’s behavior. The purpose was to try to help people to focus on the good things in their lives and to be happier. You can learn more about the Rev. Bowen’s program at His little book became popular after a visit to Oprah.

During Lent I will be preaching on complaining and methods to reduce our dependency on complaints. I’m afraid that for many of us complaining isn’t just a way to express a legitimate problem, but it is a verbal sport that is designed to help make us feel better. Unfortunately, we often end up feeling worse. We will also have a discussion group (the complaint free support group) that meets following worship.

This Sunday I have a surprise for everyone—a method to stop complaining and a free gift.
