It may not appear evident to you, but you are viewing a huge advance in the use of technology at The Congregational Church of Huntington. I’ve been writing these e-updates for better than a year. Each week I muse about some church or life event and the current activities at CCH. I then send them in a mass emailing to members of the congregation for whom I have addresses. This seems to have served a need for members to stay up to date. (And, some people even write back to comment—I like this.)
We also have a CCH website that is at www.lichurch.org. Doug Munch is the brains behind the site and he works to maintain it for the congregation. Over the past year the website has become more important as the UCC has achieved quite a lot of success in marketing. Currently almost all of our church visitors first visit us on the web before setting foot in the church. This means that the web is not only growing as an opportunity for us to spread the word about our church, but that we have a greater responsibility to keep it up to date.
As of this posting the e-update and lichurch.org are now joining together. Doug has created a new page on the website entitled “Pastor’s Blog.†A blog, for those new to this media, is an on-line journal by which a writer may publish his/her work on a website. The Pastor’s Blog is my place to share my thoughts with whomever happens to surf by. Initially I plan to post my weekly e-update (and continue to mail it directly) and to add occasional postings about church life and/or world events.
My hope is that the Pastor’s Blog will serve several functions. First, it gives visitors to our site a place to go to learn about currents events and dip their toe into the pool of CCH church life. Second, it provides a spot for members and friends to read my e-updates and, if you wish, to read posts from previous weeks as the messages stay on for awhile (I don’t know enough about it to know how long).
The biggest change is that now you, the reader, will have a chance to write back for everyone to read. Pastor’s Blog has a comment section (just click on the word comment) in which anyone may write a comment and all may read. Hopefully this can serve as an online discussion forum for items of interest to CCH crew.
I’m looking forward to this new adventure in cyberspace. A big thank-you to Doug for making this possible. Please let me know what you think.
See you in church,
Joys and Concerns

Thank you to Neila Werner and the membership committee for coordinating the photography for our new directory. This has been a lot of work—and we appreciate it. The directories should be ready by December.
