church events update

If Sundays can be compared to sundaes this week is a parfait. There is a lot going on at CCH. During our 10:00 service we will be celebrating World Communion Sunday. My sermon will reflect on the expanding nature of community in our lives. We will also collect the Neighbors In Need offering during church. This is a special offering to assist in the United Church of Christ work for domestic ministries of compassion and justice. You can read more about this at There will be special envelopes in the church bulletins on Sunday for this offering. Or, send us a check with the notation for NIN.

At noon on Sunday we will hold a second worship service—A Blessing of Animals. This is an annual event that is held in honor of St. Francis. You are invited to bring your pet to church for this outdoor service. It is a short service (30 minutes) in which we dedicate ourselves to be good humans to our pets and we thank God for the gifts of our furry friends.

Tuesday we will begin lunch-making sessions at the church. As part of the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative we will be providing bag lunches to day laborers who do not receive work in Huntington. The group will assemble several hundred lunches each Tuesday night to be distributed during the week. We will meet in the fellowship hall from 7:00-8:30 PM every Tuesday. No experience is necessary. Helpful children are welcome.

A Concert Recommendation: Sally Shorrock is the director of Canta Libre, and they will be performing at The Smithtown Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 8th at 8:00 p.m. Featured will be the complete Mozart harp and flute concerto with strings, Haydn’s Lark Quartet, and Ropartz’s Prelude, Marine and Chanson.

We also have our Stewardship dinners quickly approaching. All members will be invited to a dinner at the home of one of your brothers or sisters in the church. The dinner is primarily to develop relationships in the church. During the evening you will also be given a short presentation about the stewardship program of the church. All the dinners are being held on October 14-15, please join in the fun. If you don’t receive an invitation, but would like to attend, please give me a call.

See you in church,

Joys and Concerns
