Holy Week

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. That means parading into church with Palms and an Easter Egg Hunt after church. Quite the combination. Our youth discussion group holds the egg hunt for the kids on the Sunday before Easter because we assume they will have enough to do next week. Be sure to join us for this great day.  And here’s the rest of the Holy Week schedule:

  • Maundy Thursday: This moving service is on Thursday night at 7:30 PM.
  • The Easter Sunrise Service on Fleet’s Cove beach is one of my favorite church events of the year. Join us at 6:30 AM. The service will include music by Jim Uhl and Willie Steele.
  • Easter Family Service in the Sanctuary is at 10:00.

See you in church,

Pastor Mark

Benefit Auction a Huge Success

Thank you to everyone who helped make our benefit auction such a great success. The event was fun, the food was delicious, the company was delightful, and we raised over $12,000–a new record! It was wonderful to be able to honor Jenny Haluza with the Church Service Award. She particularly enjoyed the original watercolor that Mary Webb painted for her.

There are so many who people who contributed to this event. Thank you to all the donors of the auction prizes. Many people are going to be enjoying their gifts throughout the year. Special thanks to the auction committee: Pat Bausch, Bonnie Dawkins, Glen Grayson, Peter Lassen, Doug Munch, Don Sheldon, Ronnie Todaro and Linda Wright. We also appreciate the lively banter of our auctioneer Bill Rowland, and the staff of the Northport Yacht Club for the fine meal.

Bring Deposit Bottles and Cans to Church

Riley Fitzsimmons is collecting deposit bottles and cans at the church as part of her Girl Scout silver project. Please bring clean deposit recyclables and place them in the garbage can behind the curtain in the Fellowship Hall. This fundraiser is part of her effort to raise enough money to replace the Peace and Plenty refrigerator in the church pantry.

Joys and Concerns

We give thanks for Peter Ciccone who underwent gall bladder removal surgery on Monday. He is home and doing well.

We hold in our prayers the Rev. Lois Kirkwood, our former associate pastor, and mother of Nancy Sordi. Lois is in declining health at her home in Hingham, MA.

Happy 90th Birthday to Freddie Kleina!

Pastor's Book Group

The April selection for our Pastor's Book Group, "Lapham Rising," by Robert Rosenblatt, is a funny sendup of class relations on Long Island's east end. From the publisher: "Harry March is something of a wreck and more than half nuts. Up until now, he has lived peacefully on an island in the Hamptons with his talking dog, Hector, a born-again Evangelical and unapologetic capitalist. But March’s life starts to completely unravel when Lapham—an ostentatious multimillionaire who made his fortune on asparagus tongs—begins construction of a gargantuan mansion just across the way. To Harry, Lapham’s monstrosity-to-be represents the fetid and corrupt excess that has ruined modern civilization. Which means, quite simply, that this is war.'

The discussion group will meet on Tuesday, April 30, at Nancy Sordi's home.
