Church update

I hope that you had a safe and fun snow day on Sunday. It is usually a tough call to cancel church, but this past Sunday it was obvious. Nobody should have been out. I met with the Suffolk county UCC clergy for lunch this Wednesday. Everybody there had cancelled worship. I have cancelled church three other times, once in Colorado and twice previously in Huntington. It always feels odd to stay at home on a Sunday morning, but I enjoyed my time with my family shoveling snow.

This week is consumed with getting ready for the workcamp. We leave after worship on Sunday. There will be 11 youth and three adults going to participate in a program run by the Youth Services Opportunity Project in Washington DC. We’re driving down and plan to return Thursday night. You might say a prayer for us chaperones sleeping on a church floor for four nights—Paul DeOrsay, Kathrynne Yland, and myself.

Sunday we will ordain our new deacon and install the church officers and committee members (postponed from last week). We will also dedicate the workcampers on their trip.

Next week there will be shortened hours at the church office. Monday we will be closed and Tuesday-Thursday our secretary, Angie, will be available from 9-noon.

One unique program for our church is a Floral Design Workshop that will be taught by Nancy Bartow and Joan Insogna. It will in Fellowship Hall on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 AM. Sign us is on the bulletin board. There is No Charge.

See you in church,

Service Opportunities

v     The HIHI homeless program has been coming up short on volunteers. If you have been thinking of helping with the program, now is the time. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the church office. Or call Anne Canadeo.

v     The Trustees encourage everyone to return the supplemental pledge forms. Our goal is $15,000 and we have received pledges for only $6000.
